The subject of this shoot, Amy Pastore, wrote the following about her participation in this project:
When you're pregnant, your center of balance shifts daily. I think of it as nature's way of preparing you for the big shift when the baby comes and the center of your universe is now walking around outside of you.

These photographs represent that pregnant potential in all of us to create beauty together, whether it's a new life, a piece of art that inspires us, music that moves us or any other labor of love. I believe we're all artists and we all share that potential — pregnant or not.
This shoot is special; it's a culmination of creative elements coming together in just that way. A lot of dreams all merge divinely at once. It is yoga. I think Robert captured that. Don't you?

A dedicated yoga practitioner himself, Sturman's work has increasingly focused on capturing the timeless grace and embodied mindfulness of asana. His portraits, whether set in the lively streets of Manhattan, the expansiveness of Malibu's beaches and canyons, the timeless elegance of Walden's New England, or the bleakness of San Quentin Prison, remind us that there is beauty everywhere. In Sturman's own words "I often think of Rumi: 'I can't stop pointing to the beauty.' That feels right to me."
