A Mean Red Smoothie To Cure The Blues

When Holly Golightly (Audrey Hepburn's role in Breakfast at Tiffany's) got the blues, she called them the "mean reds." When I named this gorgeous red smoothie, I thought of Holly, because after drinking it, I felt like I could conquer the world. No mean reds allowed!

Maybe it's the ruby red beets, and their calming energy with red phytonutrients that are so good for your heart, or the seasonal cranberries and pomegranates that are fresh right now.

Local apples and tart blackberries are counterbalanced by the gentle sweetness of coconut water. Goji berries pack an antioxidant punch that makes this Mean Red Smoothie your best ally against colds and flu.

Try the Mean Red Smoothie today, and enjoy it throughout the holiday season!

  • 1 small red beet, peeled
  • 1/8 cup goji berries (best if rehydrated for about 10 minutes)
  • 1/3 cup whole organic cranberries
  • 1/2 cup pomegranate seeds
  • 1/2 red apple
  • 8 large blackberries
  • 2 cups coconut water

Blend in a high speed blender.
