Leo Season Has Officially Arrived—Here's What You Need To Know
We're somehow already fast approaching August, and Leo season has officially begun! For the next four weeks, the sun moves through the sign of the bold and dramatic lion, and we've got quite a bit in store.
From Mercury retrograde to an Aquarius full moon, here are the five big things to watch for this Leo season.
Leo season begins July 22
From July 22 to August 21, we're in the season of the lion, and there's no better time to double down on all your summer plans! Leo is a "fixed" sign, meaning it lands smack dab in the middle of the summer season (if you're in the northern hemisphere), and the fixed signs of the zodiac are the ones who revel in
While Cancer season got our summer wheels turning, and Virgo season next month serves to tie up loose ends—these next four weeks are a time to lean into the abundant energy of this time of year. Say yes to invites, spend some time soaking up the sun (Leo's ruling planet), and keep checking off that summer bucket list!
Venus in Virgo asks us for discernment
On August 4, the planet of love, beauty, and pleasure moves into the sign of discerning (if not critical) Virgo. While Virgo and Venus may have different priorities, the planet of love's annual trek through this sign serves as a reminder for us all to get practical about our relationships—and even our finances.
What's working for you and what's not? You can be sure Virgo will make it clear, taking off those rose-colored glasses.
Mercury goes retrograde starting August 4
The same day Venus moves into Virgo, Mercury is going retrograde. For just over three weeks, we can expect communication to be a bit more strained or even scrambled than usual—along with the occasional technology or travel mishap. As always, it's important to double check all your correspondences during this time, and hold off on any big decisions (or conversations) until Mercury goes direct on August 28.
At first, Mercury will be retrograde in Virgo, highlighting themes of organization, service, and health. On August 14, it backtracks into Leo, focusing more on creativity, expression, and passion.
The new moon wants us all to find our inner Leo
Speaking of August 4, there's one more notable event that same day: a new moon in Leo. While Venus moves into Virgo and Mercury goes retrograde, this new moon offers a welcome chance to reset your sights on the energy of Leo season. Think bold, dramatic, and take up space.
Leo is not one to shy away from the spotlight, after all, and under this new moon, we're being asked to step into our creative power, our passion, and let ourselves be seen. So, what's stopping you from shining?
Leo season wraps up with a full moon in Aquarius on August 19
With full moons being a time of release, the Aquarius full moon asks us to look at how we're showing up for our larger community, as well as what needs to be let go in order to embrace a spirit of open-mindedness and humanitarianism. If nothing else, this is a sign that's not afraid to think outside the box, so we should all expect unexpected revelations.
The takeaway
Leo is a sign that wants to be seen, heard, and yes, adored. Under the Leo sun, we can all lean into that energy for the next four weeks. Don't be afraid to take up space—just remember we will have Mercury retrograde in the mix, so it's never a bad idea to think twice before you say anything too bold.
