LaRayia Gaston On Healing Homelessness With Love Beyond Reason
We just wrapped revitalize 2018! Our fifth annual revitalize gathered together the world’s most knowledgeable experts and influential thought leaders for discussions on the biggest issues facing the world today—and how wellness is part of the solution. We brought you highlights on mbg’s homepage and at #mbgrevitalize on Instagram and Twitter! Now you can begin to dive into the videos from the biggest event in wellness!
For activist and artist LaRayia Gaston, wellness at its core is about community, love, and compassion—especially for those marginalized in our society. As the founder of the Los Angeles–based organization Lunch on Me, Gaston champions a mission of love without reason to help feed the city's enormous homeless population with organic meals. Lunch on Me provides more than fresh food; its volunteers give homeless individuals an even scarcer resource: love. Gaston takes the healing modalities that have served her, like crystals and Reiki, and gives them out alongside hot meals. She makes it a point to remember her participants' birthdays and ask about their health. As she sees it, her organization's overall mission is not just to end hunger but to enrich the mind, body, and spirit.
In her moving #mbgrevitalize talk, she was joined by Kevin Call, a man who overcame homelessness with the empowerment and support he got from Lunch on Me. Gaston spoke about breaking the vicious cycle of homelessness with compassion and understanding, the role of mental health in this community, and the power of distributing love and energy everywhere, without limitation.
