If "all disease begins in the gut" as Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, said thousands of years ago, then so does healing.

Bone broth is one of my favorite gut-healing food medicines. Rich in collagen and a wide array of other nutrients, organic chicken or beef bone broth is a great tool to rebuild gut function from problems such as leaky gut syndrome, SIBO, and candida overgrowth.

Typically, bone broth is used in soup recipes, but there are many creative ways to get nourishing broth into your day other than soups.

If you want my staple bone broth recipe to use here, check it out in my article "6 Nourishing Recipes To Calm Inflammation & Heal Your Gut."

Here are five of my favorite ideas to get bone broth into my day, other than soups!

1. Mashed Bone Broth Cauliflower

A nutrient-dense, healthier spin on mashed potatoes!

Ingredients:

  • 5 cups cauliflower florets
  • ⅓ cup bone broth
  • 6 tablespoons grass-fed ghee
  • Himalayan sea salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, to taste

Preparation:

  1. Steam cauliflower for about 10 minutes.
  2. Put cauliflower into food processor; add warm bone broth and ghee.
  3. Process until smooth.

What it's doing for you: In addition to the gut-healing power of bone broth, the sulfur-rich cauliflower is a methylation booster, which is a big biochemical superhighway that helps with detox pathways as well as a healthy gut lining!

2. Mango Bone Broth Smoothie

Here is a refreshing way to get bone broth in on a hot day!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup frozen mangoes
  • 1 can full-fat coconut milk
  • ½ cup bone broth
  • ¾ teaspoon ground turmeric
  • juice of 1 lemon
  • splash of orange juice

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients in blender. Blend until smooth.

What it's doing for you: This antioxidant-rich fighting drink is filled with phytonutrients to boost the immune system.

3. Sautéed Bone Broth Kale

If two superfoods had a baby...

Ingredients:

  • 2 small bunches of kale, cut into 1 =-inch chunks
  • 3 tablespoons grass-fed ghee
  • ½ cup bone broth
  • Himalayan sea salt to taste

Preparation:

  1. Put bone broth and ghee in pan.
  2. Add kale.
  3. Stir over medium-high heat for around 5 minutes.
  4. Remove pan from heat and cover with lid for about 5 to 7 minutes.

What it's doing for you: The superfood kale is rich in B vitamins, which are needed for healthy methylation pathways, which you need for a healthy gut and hormones. Ghee is also a great source of the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, and K2, which most of us are low in!

4. Bone Broth Salsa—Muy Caliente!

Ingredients:

  • 1 dried chili de arbol pepper
  • ¼ peeled, minced onion
  • ½ jalapeño pepper
  • 1 garlic clove
  • ⅓ cup bone broth
  • ⅔ cup tomato sauce
  • 4 sprigs chopped fresh cilantro
  • Himalayan sea salt to taste

Preparation:

  1. Bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add the arbol chili. Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the chili soak for 10 minutes.
  2. Remove the chili from the water and discard the water.
  3. Combine chili with all other ingredients in a food processor until smooth.
  4. Place mixture in saucepan and simmer for 20 minutes.
  5. Serve fresh.

What's it doing for you: Make your life a detox with this nutrient-packed salsa. The cilantro and onions are both great cleansing foods to upregulate detoxification pathways in your body.

5. Turmeric Bone Broth Coconut Milk

Fight inflammation + heal your gut = yum!

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup full-fat coconut milk
  • 1 cup bone broth
  • 2 teaspoons turmeric
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • Pinch of black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey
  • ¼ teaspoon ginger powder

Preparation:

  1. Blend ingredients well in a blender.
  2. Pour into saucepan and heat for 3 to 5 minutes over medium heat until warm.

What's it doing for you: Sip on this warm elixir that offers a wide array of inflammation fighters as well as the healthy fats of coconut. The black pepper is a super-booster for the turmeric, making it even stronger at calming inflammation in your body.
