Dana James, M.S. CNS CDNBoard Certified Functional Nutritionist
Dana James is a Columbia University–educated nutritional therapist and founder of Food Coach NYC. She holds her Masters in clinical nutrition and is trained in nutrition biochemistry, functional medicine, and cognitive behavioral therapy. She believes that food should be viewed as nourishing, joyful, and fundamental to self-care. Her goal is to help women break their antagonist (and often obsessive) relationship with food and their bodies. She believes that true beauty stems from grace, dignity, and embracing our idiosyncrasies that make us unique and imperfect.
Dana created the "How to Ditch Sugar" video series for mindbodygreen. Check out the program here: How to Ditch Sugar.
Dana coaches one on one, runs workshops in NYC and LA, and holds tele-seminars on various topics that help women lead a more beautiful and balanced life. To connect more with Dana, check out her Instagram account and sign up for her biweekly Sunday-evening emails.

What is your wellness philosophy?
Shame and self-worth are the opposite sides of the same coin. Unless you address the upsets from childhoods, your masks and coping strategies will limit all of your relationships, including that to food.
What brought you into wellness?
I’ve been in the industry since 2002! I was seeking answers for myself—I wanted to know how to lose weight and have pretty skin. All superficial but that eventually led me to the mind and how our thoughts influence our hormones, body shape, and eating behaviors. It would culminate in me connecting self-worth to eating habits and body shape. I discuss all of this in my upcoming book, The Archetype Diet.
What does You. We. All. mean to you?
Influencing the collective consciousness through your own individual consciousness.
What's your favorite ritual?
Daily bathing with rose petals and sea salt.
