We all know the feeling of wanting an energy boost after the 3 p.m. slump rolls in. While it can be tempting to reach for another coffee or a sugary snack, there are plenty of healthier ways to get a little pick-me-up without the crash. It comes down to finding those naturally uplifting ingredients.

Honey is an excellent option as it's a natural source of energy and could even help satisfy your craving for sweets. This tonic from The Honey Companion by Suzy Scherr is made with coconut water to help you hydrate and salt, which is a natural electrolyte. The hints of raw honey, lime, and lemon contribute to the refreshing citrusy and sweet taste.

Whether you sit at a desk all day or are an athlete, this tonic will restore your energy levels without the ups and downs. It takes only a few minutes to make, and chances are you already have some of these ingredients on hand. If you're planning ahead, make sure to blend this up and put it in a jar in the fridge for up to three days. This way you already know what to reach for when you start to feel the afternoon blues.
