Summer’s just around the corner, which means only one thing: It’s officially ice cream season. If the traditional sweet stuff leaves you with a bellyache, we’ve got good news—recent innovation in the space means there are now tons of healthy options available, so you can have your sundae and eat it too. Whether you’re looking for a treat with clean, organic ingredients, something protein-packed, or a nondairy option, we tried every healthy ice cream on the market to find the best of the best for you. These are the results.

Van Leeuwen Matcha Green Tea Frozen Non-Dairy Dessert

Photo by Van Leeuwen + mbg Creative

NYC favorite Van Leeuwen makes some of the creamiest nondairy ice creams around. The secret is in the base—the artisanal company uses cashew milk and cocoa butter, with no stabilizers or emulsifiers. Our favorite is this version, flavored with über-trendy matcha green tea that gives it an earthy, sweet note—although the perfectly buttery chocolate chip cookie dough is a close second! Matcha Green Tea Frozen Non-Dairy Dessert, Van Leeuwen ($8.50)

Julie's Organic Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream Sandwich Squares

Creamy ice cream swirled with caramel, nestled between two perfectly chewy chocolate wafers: If we don't have your attention yet, did we mention that all of the ingredients are of the highest quality, and organic? Julie's Organic makes some of the best ice cream sandwiches on the market these days, and their top-notch ingredient sourcing is evident in the taste and texture of these bite-size desserts. We love that each is a small square, just enough to satisfy a sweet craving without feeling like you've overindulged. Sea Salt Caramel Ice Cream Sandwich Squares, Julie's Organic ($6.99)

Yasso Party Animal Cake-Flavored Frozen Greek Yogurt

Photo by Yasso + mbg Creative

Yasso makes amazing frozen Greek yogurt, which is packed with protein (6 g, or 11 percent of your RDA per serving) and has a decadent, creamy texture. While all of their flavors are completely crave-worthy (think caramel pretzel, cookie dough, and candy bar), this flavor, well, takes the cake. With rainbow sprinkles and chunks of real cake sprinkled throughout (but absolutely zero artificial colors or flavors), this is a party in a bowl, the perfect way to cap off any day in a decadent but nourishing way. Party Animal Cake-Flavored Frozen Greek Yogurt, Yasso ($4.99)

Organic Coconut Bliss Vanilla Island In Chocolate Bars

Photo by Organic Coconut Bliss + mbg Creative

One of the best coconut-milk-based ice cream brands has debuted a new line of bars—and they're insanely delicious. They're completely dairy-free: The creamy vanilla inside is made from organic coconut milk, organic agave syrup, and organic vanilla extract and beans (the beans add that incredible fresh vanilla taste that'll have you drooling), and the smooth chocolate coating is made from just organic cocoa butter and organic cocoa powder. Stash 'em in your fridge for whenever you want the satisfaction of biting into a delicious chocolate shell! Vanilla Island In Chocolate Bars, Organic Coconut Bliss ($5.99)

Frankie & Jo's Gingered Golden Milk Coconut Ice Cream

Photo by Frankie & Jo's + mbg Creative

Frankie & Jo's is a cult-favorite brand, particularly among food influencers, and it's not hard to see why: With bright, photo-ready colors and super-creative flavors (Dandelion Pistachio, Salty Caramel Ash, pine-scented California Cabin), they're the perfect artisanal indulgence. While all of their ice creams are dairy-free, made from a sprouted cashew or coconut milk base, we especially love the ayurvedic-inspired Gingered Golden Milk, which weaves candied gingered chunks throughout the spicy, earthy turmeric base. Gingered Golden Milk Coconut Ice Cream, Frankie & Jo's ($52 for 4 pints)

Ben & Jerry's Peanut Butter Half Baked Non-Dairy Frozen Yogurt

Photo by Ben & Jerry's + mbg Creative

If you love Ben & Jerry's famous half-baked ice creams, you'll go nuts for this peanut butter nondairy frozen yogurt version. The ice cream mega brand uses an almond milk and pea protein base, which is studded with fudge brownie chunks and swirled with gobs of peanut butter cookie dough (we're drooling just writing this). The ethically based company ensures that the product is fully vegan, non-GMO, and made with completely fair-trade ingredients. Peanut Butter Half Baked Non-Dairy Frozen Yogurt, Ben & Jerry's ($7.99)

So Delicious Blueberry Cardamom Coconut Milk Frozen Dessert

Photo by So Delicious + mbg Creative

So Delicious has just added five new flavors to their coconut-milk-based vegan ice cream line, and they're insanely delicious. These combos definitely skew more gourmet: Think toasted coconut key lime pie, chocolate-drizzled bananas foster, and peachy maple pecan. Our favorite, though, is the Blueberry Cardamom, which uses the underutilized spice to add a rich, sweet, and savory note that perfectly complements the fruit. With largely organic ingredients and a super-creamy texture that belies its lack of dairy, this one's a keeper. Blueberry Cardamom Coconut Milk Frozen Dessert, So Delicious ($7.95)

Halo Top Non-Dairy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream

Photo by Halo Top + mbg Creative

Halo Top has redefined the ice cream landscape with their low-calorie, protein-packed frozen desserts, and their dairy-free flavors continue to innovate. While we love the Birthday Cake, Pancakes & Waffles, and Cinnamon Roll flavors, our heart lies with the Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. With generous chunks of dough and a whopping 12 grams of protein per pint (how's that for keeping blood sugar stable?), this is a treat it's OK to justify eating on the regular. Non-Dairy Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream, Halo Top ($4.89)
