How To Fight Sickness With Natural Medicine, According To An Energy Healer

As we learn more and more about the downsides of various over-the-counter medications—such as an increased risk of Alzheimer’s or a vitamin deficiency1—we are starting to turn more often towards natural remedies. Luckily, adopting a more holistic approach doesn’t mean we have to brew our own cough medicine in a pot in our kitchen. Maty’s Healthy Products is leading the march for accessible, effective, natural remedies to all our various aches and pain—including (but not limited to) coughs, colds, and acid reflux.

Carolyn Harrington is the founder of Maty’s, which is affectionately named after her daughter. She’s also a medical intuitive, energy healer, and certified holistic health practitioner. In other words: She’s the woman you want designing your all natural remedies. We sat down with her to talk about Maty’s, natural medicine, and why she decided to share her healing remedies with all of us:

What first sparked your interest in natural remedies?

21 years ago, my daughter was born with severe congenital heart defects and had to have multiple heart surgeries. During her childhood, she also had a lot of health problems, and I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis three days after she was born. After her last surgery, she started losing her hair and had psoriasis. I took her to so many doctors but all the treatments were so invasive. So like any mother would, jumped into action. I got into natural ways of healing and it became my passion.

What was the first Maty’s product that you developed and why?

I spent years creating these natural remedies in my home and was known all around the neighborhood for them, but I had four kids in the house at the time and couldn’t dedicate the time to sharing them with the public. In March of 2009 I decided to bring my immune-boosting cough remedy to the Natural Products Expo West to see if there was enough interest for it. We walked away with a commitment from 3,000 retails stores. Since a study2 had recently shown that honey works better for a cough than dextromethorphan (DM—the active ingredient in cough medicines), I had a clinical study to give my remedy the credibility it needed.

When you start to get sick, what’s the first thing you do?

At the first sign of feeling bad we open up Maty’s cough syrup. There are 10 immune-boosting ingredients in it including zinc, which has been clinically studied to shorten the duration of a cold. We also use our baby chest rub—which contains lavender and chamomile—to help you relax and sleep better at night. In addition to that, we stop eating any sugar and go to bed VERY early.

You’re a medical intuitive, how do you think your intuition helped inform the ingredients in Maty’s products?

Here’s the trick: I use a form of applied kinesiology called muscle testing before I do any research on ingredients for Maty’s products. Essentially, I take someone with the symptoms I’m trying to help and through the muscle testing process, come up with a list of ingredients that would benefit them (for example, cinnamon, lemon balm, apple cider vinegar). Afterwords, I do the research to find out why that ingredient tested positive for a certain symptom. In other words, I test everything from an energy standpoint first and then back it up with science and research.

If you could design your own pharmacy, what would it look like?

I know exactly what it would look like. It would be a natural apothecary—the farm stand of pharmacies. This would especially appeal to millennials, who are really looking for more natural products. They see that the generations before them are sick and taking drugs, and they want a better approach. There would be tons of dried spices and herbs and other products that are completely natural.

That’s a vision we can definitely get behind. Here’s to hoping we see farm stand pharmacies in the future, and more Maty’s products on the shelves in the meantime—since now we know they are formulated with so much love, energy, and care.
