This three-ingredient peach mask is the perfect DIY for the end of summer: peaches are plentiful and the sweet stone fruit also happens to contain large amounts of folates (which help replenish the uppermost layer of skin), lutein (which promotes skin elasticity), potassium (hydrates and moisturizes) and vitamin E (one of the most beneficial oils in treating damaged skin and is extremely high in anti-oxidants).
They're also a fantastic source of alpha-hydroxy acids, or AHAs, which are gentle exfoliants that speed up cell renewal and help with softening wrinkles, brightening age spots, sun spots and acne scars.
The second ingredient, apples, are rich in vitamins A (great at replenishing that outermost layer of skin), B (helps to reduce and control blemishes) and C (which slows the aging process). They also contain malic acid which helps the skin absorb these vitamins as well as help to brighten the skin.
A Peach, Apple + Nutmeg Restorative Skin Mask
Ingredients
- 1/4 of a ripe, soft peach
- 1/4 of an apple (or use all-natural applesauce)
- 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Preparation
Mash all ingredients together or combine in food processor until lumps are gone. Apply to the face, avoiding the eye area. Leave on for 10-15 minutes then remove with a warm wash cloth. Discard any unused mixture.
A word to the wise: exfoliants will temporarily make your skin more sensitive to the sun, so I recommend exfoliating at night or on days when exposure to the sun will be minimal to give skin time to recover.
