Warming & Simple Gluten-Free Breakfast Porridge

This is one of my favorite recipes for the colder months we're entering. It’s gluten free, sugar free, dairy free and full of healthy fiber. This recipe will also gently cleanse your colon — I always include it on my Whole Food Cleanse for my clients. Many people are under the impression that cleansing can only transpire by fasting, drinking only liquids or following a rigid food depriving program. It’s true that these forms of detoxing will cleanse the body, but I personally prefer gentler cleanses that respect my body and take it slow.

This is a great meal that removes toxins, is full of nutrients your body will actually use, and you won’t be left feeling hungry! Remember, when using a binding agent such as psyllium husk, it’s very important that you drink a good amount of liquids to keep it from getting stuck and not moving through properly.

Serves 2


  • 1 cup gluten-free cooked steel cut oats
  • 1 cup cooked hulled buckwheat groats
  • 1 to 2 Tbsp psyllium husk
  • 5 Tbsp coconut sugar
  • 1/2 to 3/4 cup almond milk
  • 1 Tbsp extra virgin cold pressed coconut oil
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 to 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 1 cup of your favorite berries, or favorite in-season fruit
  • 1 Tbsp of orange zest


Cook your grains the night before for an easy and quick meal.

In a pan, combine cooked oats and buckwheat. Add psyllium husk, coconut sugar, almond milk, coconut oil, vanilla extract and salt.

Cook until warm and well combined. Pour into your favorite bowl and top with berries, fruit and orange zest. I also love this recipe with cinnamon!
