5 Ways To Turn On Your Inner GPS

Not all who wander are lost. But what happens when we lose the will to wander? When we get stuck, we stop exploring. And this journey is too precious to live stalled out on the shoulder of existence with the hazards on.

Consider this your soul’s roadside assistance plan. Turn on your inner GPS and let it lead you somewhere spectacular. Relearning how to follow your heart will make this the most satisfying, gratifying, boredom-defying summer ever. To help you get started, here are five places to “set” your inner GPS — when you guide yourself here, you’ll learn how to go anywhere.

Start here: Travel to Inner Peace.

“Meditation is not a way of making your mind quiet. It’s a way of entering into the quiet that’s already there.” - Deepak Chopra

Sit in silent stillness for 5 minutes. Whatever thought or discomfort comes up, let it. Catch it. Release it back into the wild as a beast of peace. Going within is the first step to learning how to go beyond.

Take ramp: Back to Nurture

“You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”- Buddha

Take care of your own engine. For the inner GPS to clearly point the way, make the effort of self care. Sleep when you need to, grieve when you need to, walk away when you need to.

Follow signs for: Another State

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.” - Albert Einstein/Ben Franklin/Rita Mae Brown depending on who you ask.

Go somewhere unfamiliar – an experience or an environment way outside your usual repertoire. Get in the car and drive till you run out of road. Take the wrong bus just to see where it goes. Then get comfortable out of your element.

Now approaching: The Thrill of Adventure

“Do one thing every day that scares you.” - Eleanor Roosevelt

A handstand, a hang glide, a blind date. The purpose is not to experience fear, it’s to experience courage. Learning how to listen to and follow your heart comes from understanding the thrill of it.

Destination will be on the Right: Coming hOMe

“You can never go home again, but the truth is you can never leave home, so it’s all right.” - Maya Angelou

On this journey, it can be easy to forget where we come from. So every so often, check in with your roots. Call your mother. Visit where you used to go to summer camp. Book a staycation on your yoga mat.

And now, onward. To follow your heart, you have to learn how to listen to it, and that’s what turning on your inner GPS is all about. See you on the path, fellow travelers.
