Joy H Selak, PhD is an author and public speaker. With her physician, Dr. Steven Overman, she wrote the book You Don’t LOOK Sick! Living Well with Invisible Chronic Illness, (Second Edition, Demos Health, December 2012). The book invites the reader on a shared journey of a patient and her physician through the 4 phases of chronic illness—Getting Sick, Being Sick, Grief and Acceptance and Living Well. Joy is also an advocate of the arts and arts education and is passionate about helping chronically ill patients access better care by becoming informed and prepared patients. She is the immediate past president of ZACH Theatre, Austin’s premier, professional theatre and the Living Well columnist for the National Pain Report.
