He coaches physicians and other health-care practitioners on the use of functional medicine principles, and travels the United States and Canada lecturing on the biochemical interactions within the body and their relationship to diet.

Malterre and Segersten are the authors of The Whole Life Nutrition Cookbook and The Elimination Diet, and are often described as “food whisperers” who speak and write on the connection between diet and autism, fertility, and raising healthy children. They both live in Bellingham, Washington.
