Remember when you were a kid and would wander and play with nothing but your imagination for hours until dinner was ready? Let's make this the spring that brings that childhood wonder back to life.

One unexpected way to connect with this inner sense of play and exploration is to focus on your ear chakras. Hear me out: The chakras are our body's energy centers, and each one is thought to control something different. According to ancient Indian philosophy, when our chakras are out of alignment, we become unbalanced. The ear chakras hold all of our stories: the ones we tell ourselves, the ones others tell us, and the ones we pick up on our journeys.

We are the creators of our destiny, so we want to be sure to give the ear chakras some love and get them into tiptop shape. But how exactly do we do that?

Your action plan for cleaning up your inner dialogue.

Let's start with acknowledging the way we speak to ourselves. What is your inner dialogue? Are you coming from a positive place? Or is your language rooted in fear? Are you speaking kindly to yourself or beating yourself up?

The conversations we have with ourselves get stuck between the ears, so to speak, and help dictate how our lives play out. Studies have shown that positivity begets positivity and negativity brings negativity. So first things first, if you are coming from a negative place, thank yourself for acknowledging that. It’s the first step.

Now it's time to switch our thoughts around. I know, I know: If you could, you would! Well, let's just try. The moment something negative comes to mind, acknowledge it and then replace it with something positive. For each negative thought, bring in one thought of light and love. Here are some tips that will get you started:

  • Choose a daily mantra to help you switch your thoughts. It can be as simple as "I am light; I am love," which worked for me.
  • Place love-based reminders around your home, car, or office. They can be written reminders of the things you love about yourself or photos that bring a smile to your face.
  • Take notice of what brings up negative thoughts, and try to release those triggers from your life.

Here's how to show your ears some love this season.

Our ear chakras are muddled by more than just our thought patterns. The television shows and movies we choose to watch, the songs we listen to, etc., all control how we think and relate to the world.

When we watch shows that are darker in nature or filled with loud, upsetting noises, we may begin to feel nervous, frantic energy. On the other hand, lighthearted shows that bring a smile to our face can be a quick source of happiness, love, and light. Here are a few of my favorite ways to tune my ears to something happy and carefree in spring:

1. Feel the energy.

You don't need to be a trained Reiki practitioner to feel the energy all around you. Try cupping your hands around your ears, leaving an inch or so of space between your palm and ear. Allow your hands to hover as you close your eyes, take a few meditative breaths, and feel the slight heat or energy moving through you.

2. Have a dance party or movie night.

Pick out some of your favorite songs from childhood, throw them onto a playlist, and have a dance party. Old music has a way to heal parts of us that have been locked away. You can also throw on a movie from childhood. What spoke to your soul all of those years ago? Watch your favorites, and listen out for the hidden messages you might not have picked up on before.

3. Give sound healing a try.

Sound healing helps to recalibrate the body and change patterned thinking by tapping into the subconscious. You can start an at-home practice by introducing sounds of singing bowls and tuning forks to the background of your meditation, or you can look out for sound healing classes in your area.

The more we empower our ears and give them the love they deserve, the lighter and happier we can feel. It is important to remember that at the end of the day, the more love you show to yourself, the more you will get back. As the ears begin to heal, you might begin to pick up on more auditory signs from the universe—maybe you'll notice the same song pop up on the radio or keep hearing the same animal call over and over. Trust that these are something you should be paying attention to. The more you trust yourself, love yourself, and open up to the idea that you are magic, the more magical life will be!
