Take it from someone who’s usually up before dawn most mornings, how you move your body after a night of sleep can set the tone for the rest of your day. New York boxing instructor Ash Wilking often teaches as early as 7 a.m., but you won’t catch her rushing out of bed and racing to the studio. One of her favorite mindful movement practices is an intentional full-body stretch that helps wake her body up before she asks it to start performing.

This sequence of three stretches can help calm the mind, warm up sleepy muscles, and open up your shoulders and hips—and you can easily do each stretch while you’re still in bed. Try it out for yourself!
