I can’t say I’m a morning person. In fact, I love staying up late reading, writing, or brainstorming. However, over the years, I’ve come to recognize the importance of starting your day off right and how your morning sets the tone for your entire day.
To overcome my reluctance to get out of bed, and to find energy and enthusiasm for my day, I’ve developed morning rituals, strategic and meaningful practices that help me build momentum for a marvelous day.
Here are my top 5 morning rituals for a marvelous day:
When I start my day with meditation, I experience more mental clarity, focus, and less stress throughout the day. My morning meditation also helps me tap into my intuition and make better decisions – in business, relationships, and even with nutrition. It doesn’t have to be a long sit, my average is 20 minutes, but anywhere from 10-30 minutes is a great way to start your day.
2. Read 10 pages.
This tip is from Darren Hardy, of Success magazine, who suggests reading ten pages or for 30 minutes every morning. This morning ritual will inspire your day. Plus, it ensures that you keep learning. With this practice, I’ve read several more books this year than I would have otherwise.
3. Review your goals.
Your goals are like a map for your life: they help you stay clear on where you’re at and where you want to go. Imagine taking a road trip with no map and no destination in mind: you’d end up lost, at a dead end, or uncertain of what to do next. Life is this way, too, and when you review your map regularly you’ll stay on track and reach your destination.
4. Move your body.
Take a walk, do a few sun salutations, cat and cow, or take a gentle bike ride. This will stimulate your body and remove the inertia or drowsiness from sleep. Especially if you’re not a morning person like me, this will generate momentum to carry you through your day.
5. Get grateful.
Contemplate or write in a journal what you’re grateful for. Starting your day with gratitude sets your tone for abundance, and you’ll be attuned to delight for the rest of your day.
By consciously and intentionally begin each day, you'll feel more fulfilled and more satisfied consistently.
