Dr. Brian Clement, N.M.D., Ph.D., L.N., author, international lecturer, and director of Hippocrates Health Institute discusses how diet can help prevent aging and disease. We got the scoop from Dr. Clement about how to lengthen your lifespan and improve your health through a pure, organic diet.
1. What are the best foods for increasing your lifespan?
A diet of organically-grown, enzyme rich raw, life-giving foods is the best way to increase your lifespan and improve your quality of health. Some of the foods I recommend for increasing your lifespan are blueberries, cruciferous vegetables, garlic, red sweet peppers, and sweet potatoes. Each of these foods is rich in a number of minerals and antioxidants.
Blueberries contain an abundant amount of antioxidants, which reverse the harmful effect of aging on neuronal (brain cell) signals.
Cruciferous vegetables are rich with sulforaphan, which helps fight cancer cells. Garlic inhibits the growth of cancer cells, and helps to reduce ventricular plaque and inflammation, the cause of both heart attacks and stroke.
Red Sweet Peppers are full of Vitamin C, which reduces free radical damage, the essential cause of all premature aging and disease.
Sweet potatoes are highly nutritious and have been shown to increase vitality (both mental and physical), strengthen the heart and other vital organs, and most importantly, increase the cell’s ability to regenerate at a more rapid pace.
2. How can what you eat affect your susceptibility to disease?
Consuming food in its purest form: fresh, organic, and enzyme-rich, gives the body the highest level of nutrition with the lowest expenditure of energy, allowing the body to focus on detoxifying and healing itself.
To lower the risk of chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease, a diet full of fruits and vegetables is key. Eating organic foods full of minerals and vitamins can also prevent serious illnesses that are caused by a deficiency in certain vitamins.
Phytochemicals, found in cauliflower and brussels sprouts, help prevent cancer. Also, the low fat of most fruits and vegetables helps maintain low cholesterol levels, therefore reducing the risk for cardiovascular disease.
3. Is it beneficial to eat organic or vegan?
Going raw and dropping meat and dairy products from one’s diet has innumerable benefits. Not only are vegans healthier, they also have more energy and stronger immune systems.
Cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, MS, ALS, Parkinson’s, fibromyalgia and more can be altered, prevented, and at times conquered with phytochemicals, antioxidants and other nutrients consumed on a diet of organic vegan living food. A vegan or organic diet, complimented by exercise, positive thinking, and non-invasive therapies is integral to optimum health.
4. Is there anything to avoid having in one’s diet?
Sugar is incredibly addictive, and its addictive nature has been well-documented. Refined sugar is actually concentrated, crystallized acid which has caused a long list of serious diseases.
The only sugar people should consume is the natural kind found in fresh vegetables and fruits. Not only does it attack the pancreas, it is also the direct cause of a number of diseases.
5. Are there any other measures that can be taken to increase lifespan and maintain a strong immune system?
Juicing is incredibly beneficial to the human body. Wheatgrass juice, specifically, has antioxidants and phytochemicals which provide exceptional nutrient value. When consumed and used as an implant, wheatgrass juice is effective in cleaning out the arteries, increasing red blood-cell count, fighting tumors, restoring alkalinity to the blood, flushing out toxins, and assisting bone barrow to generate new cells.
I also recommend detoxing to rid your body fat and organs of synthetic chemical toxins. This unburdens the immune system so that healthy cells can be produced to help regenerate and heal the body. Exercise, fasting, supplements, drinking pure water, and wheatgrass juice are all effective ways to detox the body.
I recommend chlorella as a detox supplement, as the green algae helps the body get rid of heavy metals and radiation effects. I also suggest cayenne pepper, capsicum, garlic, and edible green clay.
