Everyone Deserves to Do Something They Love
When you awake, the first thing you think or feel will be your body and mind communicating with you. It may be trying to tell you something very important or reminding you that a particular area of your life needs addressing. Perhaps you may have eaten something the day before and feel groggy, this is especially true if you have an intolerance to certain foods. Or there is a nagging issue which you keep pushing down in the hope that it will go away. The way your body feels when you awaken, is a message to you and for most also the time when you have to think about getting up and going work.
You awake in the morning and a feeling of dread comes over you, you probably haven’t slept very well the night before due to your mind going over what you did throughout the day or what you have to do tomorrow. You were reflecting on something a customer said to you or perhaps you had to deal with a conflict. And to top it off your manager lacked empathy and understanding!
The most common factor of discontent at work is that your role and responsibilities do not resonate with your deepest values. When you are working for another company you will be working towards their vision, their values and their beliefs. These aren’t always in alignment with your own personal values or beliefs, and you may find that you are surrounded by people to whom you have little in common with as well. As a result you lack fulfilment and there will be an inner conflict which manifests itself through feelings of stress, lack, de-motivation and in extreme cases ill-health.
Stop for a moment and imagine what it would feel like to wake up in the morning with a feeling of excitement, zest for life, bounce, happiness, fulfilment, love, joy!
It is extremely common that most people don’t even know what their core values are or how they impact on their job and everyday life. Before I began doing what I do now, I was very much a corporate bunny, living the dream of someone else and conforming to the corporate grooming. Although my job was in an area that I liked, I suffered a lot of stress from being badly managed. As a result I spent most of the day at my desk with tense shoulders which turned into RSI (repetitive strain injury) in my arms and neck. I ignored it and continued to push myself to a point where I was stressed, anxious and depressed with every day feeling like I was walking through glue and my body was aching more and more. It was then that redundancy occurred and when I look back now I realise it was the universe’s way of telling me to get out! In fact it had been telling me to get out all along, but I chose to ignore the messages from my body and emotions.
Everyone deserves to do something they love, although sometimes people don’t even know what they want which causes even more stress!
