Yogi Elena Brower's Favorite Places in NYC

Yesterday we talked with yogi Elena Brower about yoga, nutrition, and some of her favorite books. Today we talk with Elena about her favorite places and things in New York City -- the city that she calls home.

Restaurants and Food Shops:

Provisions - Provisions (pictured) is near my home by the seaport, on Beekman Street. Run by Megan, a caring woman who takes great care to offer locally grown and made veggies, cheeses, Mast Brothers Chocolate, and high quality olive oil made in the USA!

Hampton Chutney - It's owned by Gary and Isabelle, who've spent time preparing food for Gurumayi; their delicious dosas remind me of weekends spent nurturing myself and meditating...and they're right around the corner from Virayoga.

Great Jones Spa Cafe - Great Jones Spa Cafe has my lunch. The Joe's wrap with no onions. Just get it. Trust me. 'Tis the best way to get kale into your mouth, I promise.

Organic Avenue - It's run by Denise Mari (pictured) and Doug Evans -- both are fully committed to spreading health and well-being by educating, cleansing and nourishing new york city. Their clarity amazes me.

Souen - My favorite spot for a quiet sit-down in Soho to have a clean, macrobiotic meal that lifts me up every time.

Omen - By far my preferred "treat" dinner, either solo or with my favorite people. Authentic, perfectly cut sashimi, avocado salad, 18-grain rice and age tofu with lotus root always hit the spot.

Lifethyme - Lifethyme (pictured) in the west village is one of the finest supermarkets for healthy food, with a great array of raw offerings, juice bar with the infamous Melvin at the helm, great warm food and salad bar, and thoughtful cosmetics and toiletries selection upstairs.

Other Shops and Treats:

Clover - Clover in Brooklyn is owned by friends of friends, and has a concise, thoughtful selection of clothes for kids. They use only organic cottons and woolens and are committed to socially responsible business practices, with an intent to make a positive economic impact on the folks who manufacture their designs. Loving the boy's "Reuben Gaiabera "shirt. (Pictured)

Aedes de Venustas - Aedes De Venustas is a sensory overload of the finest sort. Candles, scents, lotions, potions, and the cutest guys minding the store. Excellent for gifts -- for yourself or someone you love. I'm obsessed with Cire Trudon Odeurs Imperiales votive set  -- expensive, yes, but when you pass by one of these votives in your home you're transported to some ancient, indulgent moment in time.

Okkies - The best kids clothing, hands down, quality and cuteness.

Kee's chocolates - Kee's chocolates is run and owned by Kee, who makes all the chocolates on the spot on Thompson Street. Fresh, yummy, super creative and reasonably priced...make sure to get there early on weekends as she often sells out of the best flavors. Lavender, Jasmine, Thai Chili and Smoked Salt are my current preferences.

Yoga Studios: (Even Elena has some favorites)

World Yoga - Anusara uptown.

Akasha Yoga - Small, quality Anusara near Virayoga, our studio.

Kula Yoga - My favorite vinyasa studio owned by dear friend Schuyler Grant.

Virayoga - (Pictured) Our studio, open 8+ years.
