45 percent of Chipotle's beans are organic, and restaurants buy produce from local family farmers when available. Chipotle is also the first national restaurant chain to serve free-range pork from Niman Ranch. Some locations (like their Chelsea location at 18th street & 8th Ave) are even testing a new vegan burrito.

What meat eater doesn't love fried chicken? New York City's best can be found at Dirty Bird. Dirty Bird's ‘birds' aren't dirty at all - in fact they're as delicious and clean as they get. They're all-natural chickens that are veggie fed and raised free of antibiotics in Pennsylvania Amish country.

This "eco-eatery" in Fort Greene really takes being green to heart. There's a bike-powered blender, solar-powered roof, and the picnic benches are even made from recycled wood. Habana is the perfect place to bring your kids on a hot summer day or grab and head to the park just a few blocks away. They reopen every year on Earth Day (April 17, 2010).

How can you have an "on-the-go" list and not have a food truck? La Cense serves us "100% grass fed goodness on the streets of New York City" with their delicious burgers. For an extra $.50 you can add cheese and you're tab is at $7.50. They'll be back on the streets this spring.

Pret is another example of how "fast food" can also be healthy. You'll find lots of organic sandwiches, snacks, and coffee at this British import. Ingredients are delivered fresh to Pret every morning and everything is made from scratch so you don't have to worry about your pre-wrapped sandwich being fresh.

If you thought we forgot about coffee you are mistaken. Think serves up some of the very best in New York City - and they clearly "think" about every single thing they do. Not only is their coffee delicious, but it's also organic, fair trade, and sustainably grown. Even their milk is sourced locally from farmers in the Hudson Valley. Their Bleecker street location also makes for some of the best people watching (Bleecker) on a weekend afternoon. Did I mention there's free Wi-Fi?
