We all know a summer reading list should provide entertainment for you this summer, but why not grab a stack of books that is sure to provide much more than that?
Check out this list of recent reads and modern classics sure to also get you thinking deeply while you’re at the pool or the beach.
Be Here Now by Ram Dass. The seminal book on meditation, yoga, and spirituality by the man who is probably the best known yogi of the West. This classic is a must if you have not yet read it, and if you had it is always worth a second reading. If you enjoy it, check out Ram Dass’s other books which include Still Here: Embracing Aging, Changing, and Dying; Be Love Now: The Path of the Heart; and Journey of Awakening, the Meditator’s Guidebook.
Start Something That Matters by Blake Mycoskie. For the business inclined, this is a great primer on starting and marketing a business that gives back. Blake details the One for One philosophy (giving a shoe to a child in need for every shoe it sells) behind TOMS which helped the company become so successful.
Wishes Fulfilled: The Art of Manifesting by Dr. Wayne Dyer. A more spiritual version of the principles made popular by The Secret, this book is the latest of many by Dr. Wayne Dyer. My favorite classics by Dr. Dyer include: Change Your Thoughts – Change Your Life; The Power of Intention; and The Shift: Taking Your Life from Ambition to Meaning.
Peace is Every Breath: A Practice for our Busy Lives by Thich Nhat Hanh. Vietnamese monk Thich Nhat Hahn has written many popular books over the years, including; The Heart of Understanding: Commentaries on the Prajnaparamita Heart Sutra; Taming the Tiger Within; and the seminal Living Buddha Living Christ.
How to Change the World: Social Entrepreneurs and the Power of New Ideas by David Boorstein. This book provides personal stories of success by individuals who made an impact in their world. If you have already read this modern classic, check out Boorstein’s latest book, Social Entrepreneurship: What Everyone Needs to Know
Whatever you choose this summer, happy reading!
