Fresh off New Year's resolutions, every January people typically join their local gym in hopes of shedding weight or getting in shape. But what happens when many are still out of work or have yet to recover from the recession?
The good news is that there are low-cost or free alternatives to the pricey gym membership. According to The Wall Street Journal, people are getting creative and hitting "free and low-cost venues such as running trails, bike paths and even malls, where power-walkers stride in the early mornings."
Hitting the mall for a workout? Yes, pictured is a mall-walking group in Sarasota, Florida. If the mall isn't your thing there's also low-cost or free yoga in cities as well. Last March, NYC's Integral Yoga Institute launched a free yoga class and a $5 class for those who are unemployed and both are jam-packed.
