Feel, Inquire, and Shine from the Heart
To really learn, to really know one-self, we pretty much have to unlearn what we've learned, especially when being brought up in a typical Western environment. To allow true wisdom to flow through us, we have to soften, simplify and feel rather than just think and do. Our society has been so conditioned to just intellectually learn information and apply it without much if any emphasis on being present and grateful. We could bitch and complain about certain aspects of our society that maybe aren’t as harmonious as they could be or we can work on our own transformation and spread our compassion, love and gratitude out to others. What would have more of an impact on global healing?
Having an open, alert and clear mind and a loving heart is more like true knowing rather than just intellectually knowing. We have to have balance. Respect the intellectual mind, respect science and facts, but regularly if not always surrender to the heart and go beyond thought and beyond words. Just a heads up… The ego probably won’t like the idea of ‘surrender’ at all. There very well may be egoic resistance to a lot of these practices. ‘Letting go,’ ‘just be,’ ‘love unconditionally,” etc., most definitely won’t fly well with the ego, so meditate every day to get to know the workings of the mind so you can use the amazing instrument you’ve been blessed with.
Here are four quotes from Albert Einstein I recently read that inspired me to write this piece:
“I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.” “A new type of thinking is essential if mankind is to survive and move toward higher levels.” “I believe, indeed, that overemphasis on the purely intellectual attitude, often directed solely to the practical and factual, in our education, has led directly to the impairment of ethical values.” “Without 'ethical culture,' there is no salvation for humanity.” “There comes a time when the mind takes a higher plane of knowledge but can never prove how it got there. All great discoveries have involved such a leap.”
You could ‘know’ a topic really well but does that mean that you really know it? We don’t really know something until we’ve felt it, experienced, really resonated with it. It’s like looking at photographs and movies of the ocean and having a conceptual idea of what the ocean is, but until you’ve swum in the ocean and felt it, you don’t really know what it is. Once we label something and analyze it too much we lose touch with the feeling of the experience. It becomes just a fact or an idea. Even spirituality… I could know all the ancient spiritual texts inside and out and talk the talk, but would that make me spiritual? I could know all about the human brain but does that mean I really know the brain? This mechanical way of life is often unfulfilling and leaves us constantly searching for something. Feel the abundance within you right now, wherever you are. Melt into the heart, immersing completely into each and every moment. Melt into the ‘mystery’ and all the big mysteries of life become less mysterious and more beautiful, more real.
Do you feel at ease right now? Completely content and full of love and joy? This might sound blunt, but if you’re not, then you’re not fully being true to yourself. You’re probably caught up in the mind, in the thoughts, maybe in the mind created worries. This is such a common experience for humans. A regular or even constant feeling of unease. If this state wasn’t so common, it would probably be regarded as insane. Our world needs us to shine from the heart more than just the mind. Now, I’m not saying you won’t feel pain if you shine from your heart. Pain is very much apart of human life, however, it is completely possible to feel love, joy and contentment even through life’s painful moments. It may not feel like it, but suffering in life, for the most part is optional. Are you holding onto grudges, resentment, anger or even hatred? These are all dense energies that block up your heart space making it hard or even impossible to feel true love, contentment and peace. As we forgive we begin to heal our heart centre, as we love we begin to heal the earth and all those around us. With you inner environment are you polluting the earth or healing it?
Us humans are a curious bunch aren’t we? Our asking, “What is the meaning of life?” or “Where or what is God?” It’s kind of like a fish asking, “Where is all the water?”
Asking these questions can really open us up to the mysteries of life, but the problem is that most people are expecting a black and white factual answer. We need to live out the answer. Feel the answer. Flow through life with an open heart and an open mind and the answers will flow through you. You are the answer and you have all the answers within you.
The intellect that we’ve been blessed with is incredible and I am so grateful for it, however if the mind is constantly scattered with un-needed information such as hatred, fear, doubt, worry etc., the mind ends up using us. Through meditation and other practices that help us get to know the mind a whole lot better, we can use our mind as an amazing instrument rather than it using us. Are you making full use of your brain or is it using you?
Shine from the Heart
In this realm of living from the heart, no one is a stranger. Feel the heart connection between you and everyone. Our world needs to move into a more loving place, and it’s only going to happen if each of us is in a loving place. Shine the light of your heart equally to everyone and everything. This all might sound corny to some, or maybe even dogmatic, and I remember a time when it sounded corny to me also, but now it just seems like common sense. I think we can all admit, no matter how stubborn our ego might be, that this is where we need to go.
Send love to those you don’t see eye-to-eye with, even to those that may have hurt you or let you down. To a stubborn ego this sounds absurd, but this approach is what’s need to really resonate from the heart. The common egoic approach, “I’ll give him a taste of his own medicine,” just keeps us stuck in intense egoic separateness. Let the purifying love from your heart burn away any hatred or resentment that separates your heart from other hearts.
Smile. Don’t underestimate the impact a heart felt smile has on someone else’s day or even life. Be in awe of this amazing earth we’ve been blessed to live on and this incredible vehicle we’ve been given to experience love in this paradise. And always know that it’s ok not to know.
Shine from the heart.
