One step to vanish a pimple? Pretty much! Because nothing can make you feel as icky as a spot, especially if you've gone to town with all the best intentions, squeezed it, and it got ALOT worse. I confess: I have canceled plans because of a pimple or three. And I know I'm not alone in my overreaction. Something about it manages to drive the sanest among us to extreme measures. So what actually works? I've personally found the most effective remedies to be homegrown for total eradication.
Unless you are lucky enough to be born with exceptional genetics, your skin needs a lot of TLC, and this is especially so, if you're prone to pimples. It's something that one third of us suffer with at least once in our lifetimes, but it's all the more shocking when it creeps up on you in your 30s (like my recent neck outbreak), with no warning.
Instead of giving into the temptation and popping it, here's how you can get rid of it for good. Oh, and what if I told you that you could make these five fast acting remedies in the privacy of your bathroom or kitchen? What if I told you it was really, really easy? What if I told you it could cost...no more than $5 and involves a lot of honey?
If any of this excites you, then read on, grab a mixing bowl and spoon, and voilà, a pimple-free face!
1. Honey & cinnamon
Honey is great for getting rid of spots because its a natural antibiotic. Mix a tablespoon with 1/2 a teaspoon of cinnamon and use your fingers to dab it on to dry skin. Rub it in a circular motion for three minutes, and then wash off with warm water.
2. Make a clay mask
You can buy cosmetic clay in powder form to dry out a pimple and halt any impending outbreaks. Mix a tablespoon of powdered clay with apple cider vinegar to make a paste, then spread it over your spot/spots. Leave for 10-15minutes until dry, and rinse gently with warm water.
3. Crush an aspirin
Add a crushed aspirin into a tablespoon of honey, apply the mixture to your spots, and leave it on for several minutes—this should take down the angry inflammation in a jiffy and render it pretty moot.
Cut a lemon in half and gently rub onto your pimple. Why? Because lemons contain citric acid which attacks the bacteria that causes acne. P.S The stinging feeling means it’s working.
