What's in a kiss? Nothing less than the very essence of what it is to be human. While I don't know much about aphrodisiacs, I do know that chapped and dry lips aren't sexy mood stimulators. Step forward this simple DIY scrub that always makes me feel more alluring. And feeling more alluring is what it's all about, right? Plus, if you wear lipstick, tint, or gloss, application requires a smooth, flake-free lip.
It's also been suggested that the fuller a woman's lips, the higher her estrogen levels, a hormone associated with fertility. The study carried out at the University of St. Andrews, Scotland, found that women who were judged to be attractive tended to have fuller lips, a natural side effect of exfoliating your lips and getting the blood flow going!
I'm not a devotee of sugar, but I am devotee of the sugar scrub. Like all my DIY attempts, it makes me feel mighty and potent, like I've figured out a secret to the Universe—this is probably because beauty DIY is pretty much the only crafty thing I can turn my hand to. Consider this, too—we spend time prepping, buffing, and smoothing the rest of our bodies, so why don't our lips deserve the same exfoliating treatment?
I (and I'm hazarding a guess, you) want lip balm thick enough to heal chapped lips but also groom brows, soften cuticles, add a sexy sheen to cheeks and clavicles, and in a static emergency, tame flyaway hair. And this scrub does all that AND has just the right-size granules that don't tear your delicate lip skin for a pout that's fit for pecking.
It's literally as simple as mashing 2 teaspoons of caster sugar with your existing (because we're thrifty here at mbg) lip balm, then thinning out the paste with some almond or coconut oil, adding a few drops of essential oil (I like rose otto in this case because it's supposedly one of the world's most powerful aphrodisiacs) so you smell and taste extra delicious before decanting into a pot. It's a truly satisfying two-minute job and just enough is left on so when you make out, it's really worth your while.
And while you're scrubbing down your lips, let those grounds find their way down to your your body. Not only will you get a helluva scrub, but, if you're an olfactory fiend (as I am), you'll also get a heady and fragrant wash of limb-glistening coconut and essential oils. Then, while you’re waiting for it to work its magic in a pore-opening steamy shower, adorn or be adorned in rose petals. Ok, ok, so a girl can dream...
