I mean, I'd like to say that I'm completely low maintenance, but that would be a big, fat lie! There are two products I use almost daily: facial sunscreen and a luminizer (a gal's got to glow, after all). We all know why the first is important for both beauty and skin health: a broad-spectrum sunscreen protects against exposure to UVA and UVB rays, which can cause aging, burning, and skin cancer. Which brings me to my luminizer (Ilia Illuminator in Cosmic Dancer, $34, in case you were wondering). For many women, this product would be utterly superfluous, a sort of weird hybrid that straddles skin care and makeup. But that's precisely why I like it. It's part skin care and makeup, negates the need for foundation, and imparts a radiance I often need. A two-in-one after all is a multi-hyphenate: works like a dream; comes in sleek packaging; is clean, green, lean, and mean...you get my gist. In the case of my luminizer, it gives everything I put on after a better finish and staying power and brings more benefits besides, such as color correction, facial bone highlighting, and glow.
The magic of these chosen five lies in their profound abilities: clever hybrids that do double (and in some cases triple and quadruple) duty.
Hand sanitizer + deodorant
While Jao's hand sanitizer is listed as just that, it has a multitude of other uses that get me all excited. Think, deodorant, bug-bite reliever, aftershave (for the man in your life), and pimple sanitizer. Yes, ladies, I've been known to rub a bit of this on a spot I've just squeezed. But it's the natural armpit-freshening magic that I think you'll like the most. Oh, and your clothing will remain completely streak-free. One for even the tiniest of clutch bags or minimalist packer. Jao Refresher ($10)
Hair + body wash
The hair and body wash combo is the OG category that started the multipurpose ball rolling (Old Spice, anyone?). For post-sun restoration, delicate citrus scent, and moisturizing feels, Davines suds up nicely. So nicely, in fact, that I reckon you'll be happy to let this in for a one-and-done shower session from here on in. Davines Su Hair & Body Wash (from $11)
Shower gel + makeup brush cleaner
Éclair's vanilla and sweet orange gel is a proper power player. Rich in coconut and olive oils, this biodegradable organic liquid is mild enough for hair and skin but can also clean makeup brushes, intimates, and delicate surfaces. The aromatic medley of chamomile, arnica, ginseng, passionfruit flower, lemon verbena, and yerba mate pack a alchemic punch. Éclair Naturals Vanilla & Sweet Orange Shower Gel ($8.99)
Body butter + hydrating cleanser
Cleanse and hydrate in one with this illuminating body butter made with organic plant butters (shea and coconut) and infused with orange blossom absolute, clary sage, and shimmering mica for extra sparkle. Use this if your skin needs a cleansing experience that feels restorative (versus stripping) and if you have dry/parched skin. The addition of "starry" flower essences of woodland star, cosmos, and starflower claim to bestow the magical and uplifting powers of the cosmos. I think they do... Plant Folk Apothecary Cosmic Body Butter ($16)
Highlighter + lip tint
Is there anything more brilliant than a strategically placed swipe of tinted highlighter to supercharge tired skin? Mastering luminous cheekbones, wide-awake eyes, and a huge smile is that much easier, thanks to Gressa's next-level formula that gives a customized boost in seconds; the serum pigment adapts to any skin tone, and you can use it on cheeks, eyelids, and lips for a quick tint that nourishes while providing a halo of luminosity.
