As a professional intuitive or psychic, I help clients see the possibility and potential in their lives. Occasionally a client will ask me about "manifestation," a powerful tool that works wonders to evoke a more prosperous future.

However, many people who have been burned by spiritual teachers and books claiming that "anything is possible" no longer believe in manifestation. True, the universe as a whole is limitless in its possibility. But is anything possible in your individual life? Of course not—for many, many reasons. Most importantly, limitless possibility would mean you had no specific destiny.

Yet so much is possible in your life, and one of my favorite ways to discover these possibilities is with surrender manifestation. Here's how it works:

Step 1: Set your intention or get clear with yourself on what you want to bring into or change about your life.

Step 2: Stay very open-minded about what might be for your highest good regarding this issue or the best path forward.

Step 3: Watch with a heightened awareness for signs from the universe.

Step 4: Act on the universe's guidance.

The following are insights on surrender manifestation and how to use it this year to live at your highest potential.

Surrender manifestation asks the universe to show you how to live at your highest potential in the moment, for the highest good of all involved.

1. Manifestation isn't all hype.

Maybe you read The Secret and walked away with an impression the author probably never meant to give: that you can simply "attract" a million dollars, the lead role in a Hollywood film, or world peace. You might have become jaded, or even hurt, when you realized that manifestation isn't that simple or straightforward.

The premise of surrender manifestation is grounded and practical: We each have a certain life path and general destiny. Other details about you are unique and fixed to a degree: your natural talents, your culture, the time period you live in, the family you were born into, events in your past that cannot be changed. Surrender manifestation asks the universe, considering all these factors, to show you how to live at your highest potential in the moment, for the highest good of all involved.

2. Get in the habit of listening to the universe's guidance.

As an intuitive, I am forever reminding clients that the universe constantly sends us signs in the form of advice from friends and family, people and opportunities that show up out of the blue, and other synchronicities.

The universe is always knocking on the door, hoping we will open up and heed this guidance. Surrender manifestation puts a heavy emphasis on paying attention to the signs you receive about your wish or intention. Once you get in the habit of watching for these messages from a loving universe, you will not only recognize the signs more easily but receive them more often.

3. Keep an open mind.

Sometimes during a reading, I will get an image of a horse with blinders on. This can mean that my client is being too narrow in their focus and isn't seeing all the possibilities of a situation. When we want something very much, it's easy to use what I call the white-knuckle approach to manifestation. We think we can—and are meant to—control everything. So we focus on and try to force one outcome.

Being too narrow in our thinking or believing that it's up to us alone to "make it all happen" is not only stressful but incredibly counterproductive. In doing so, we miss golden opportunities or race down dead-end roads. With surrender manifestation, you ask the universe to help you plot a course before you get too far along the journey.

Surrender manifestation helps you craft, rethink, and revise your intention.

4. Enjoy quicker results and waste less time.

What we believe we want can actually be pretty far off the mark. Surrender manifestation helps you craft, rethink, and revise your intention. Acclaimed spiritual leader Danielle LaPorte advises people to set feeling intentions instead, asking folks to imagine how what they want would make them feel.

For instance, you might tell the universe you want more money. But what does more money really mean to you? It might mean freedom, more time, nicer stuff, a better quality of life. You could go after more clients or a more stressful career and find the extra money isn't really getting you those things. When you tell the universe how you want to feel, for example "free" or "safe," you might be shown ways to get those needs met that have nothing to do with money.

5. Receive proof that the universe cares about you.

In my intuitive practice, a client might come to me with a level of anxiety about life in general. The modern world can feel cold, overwhelming, and competitive. But when you practice surrender manifestation, you engage very intimately with the universe and no longer feel like just a number.

When you start receiving signs and wise counsel, or grace moments that appear like mini miracles, you realize that someone has your back. Someone is watching and caring, looking out for your best interests. This can stem emotions like fear and create a sense of calm confidence that is not only very pleasant but helps a lot with manifestation and "attracting" what you want.
