Dr. Joel Kahn is the founder of the Kahn Center for Cardiac Longevity and author of The Whole Heart Solution and Dead Exes Don't Get Bonuses. The cardiologist and professor is now on a campaign to prevent 1 million heart attacks through healthy living.

Here, he sits down with mbg founder and CEO Jason Wachob to explain why he recommends a Mediterranean diet to his patients. Though many people discount the diet because of its high carbohydrate content, Dr. Kahn thinks we should "bring back the bread bowl"—as long as it's not paired with sugar, saturated fat, or animal products.
