Apples Top 2011 'Dirty Dozen' List of Produce Contaminated with Pesticides
The Environmental Working Group (EWG) is out with their 2011 'Dirty Dozen' list of produce with the highest amount of pesticides. The public health advocacy group found that 92% of apples contained two or more pesticides, putting them on top of the list (translation: buy organic apples).
Here's the complete Dirty Dozen list. You probably want to buy organic here.
The Dirty Dozen:
6. Nectarines (imported)
7. Grapes (imported)
8. Sweet bell peppers
12. Kale/collard greens
And on the flip side, here's the "Clean 15" list of produce with the lowest amount of pesticides. If you'd like to save some money on produce and not opt for organic, this list is a good place to start.
The Clean 15:
6. Sweet peas
9. Cantaloupe (domestic)
13. Sweet potatoes
