The Cause Of Your Inflammation + 2 Healing Elixirs To Soothe It
Inflammation is your body’s response to all different types of stressors. It's a fire that the body generates in order to protect itself, but it can cause some real damage if it's called upon too many times throughout the day. We need this essential fire to purify ourselves, yet we must control and nurture it so it services our needs.
Here are a few factors that can send your inflammation into overdrive:
Acidic food: Acidic foods and beverages like breads, pastas and coffee can be so tempting, but they tend to encourage low-grade bacteria in the colon and can weaken the immune system.
Stress: Constant emotional and psychological stress raises cortisol levels and burns out the adrenals. Remind yourself to pause and take a breath from time to time.
Environmental toxicity: The pollution in the air we breathe and the water we drink can contribute to inflammation and chronic stress. Our body has an innate ability to purify any toxicity, by it can be hard for it to do so when we're "on" all the time. If you live in a city, take the time to go out to nature.
These two healing elixirs can help soothe the inflammation caused by these lifestyle factors:
Vitamin C Elixir
These herbal sources of vitamin C reduce inflammation by supplying essential minerals, anti-oxidants, and bioflavonoids.
- 1 tsp mangosteen powder
- 2 tsp turmeric powder (or 1 thumb’s worth of fresh turmeric)
- 1 tsp hibiscus powder
- 1 thumb’s worth grated fresh ginger
- Add 1 tsp of raw honey or choice of sweetener
Place your powders in a cup and add boiling water. Allow to steep up to 15 minutes and enjoy.
You can also drink this elixir chilled. Combine your powders with raw coconut water (at a ratio of about 7 parts water to 3 parts herbs) to make a yummy mocktail.
These herbs are potent purifiers, and together they aid in detoxing the blood, liver and gallbladder.
- 3 parts kale
- 2 part cucumber
- 3 parts raw coconut water
- 1 part dandelion greens
- 1 part parsley
- 1/2 part lemon
- 1/2 part ginger
- 1/2 tsp moringa
- 1/2 tsp spirulina
- 1/2 tsp chanca piedra
In a shaker, add the first seven ingredients together. Then, mix your dry ingredients in until dissolved and enjoy.
