Shauna Harrison On Fitness, Dreaming Big, And #Wellth

I’ve spent the past year thinking a lot about “wellth”—the idea that success is found in a lifestyle devoted to mental, physical, and emotional health. (I even wrote a book about it.) In this new series, we’re celebrating visionaries who embody what it means to be wellthy. 

Mindbodygreen comes full circle with Shauna Harrison, as she was friends with my wife while they were students at Stanford. After college, Shauna went on to get her master's degree at UCLA and studied for her Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins when her fitness classes that she was teaching on the side became so immensely popular that Under Armour took notice. The rest is history.

mbg: Favorite healthy place to eat?

SH: Urth Caffe in Los Angeles ... or anything sushi!

What's your favorite way or place to escape to get some nature?

Trail or beach runs.

What's your favorite way to break a sweat?

That's like asking which is your favorite child. Running, yoga, jump rope, interval training, and Pilates.

Favorite holistic treatment?

Acupuncture.

How do you de-stress and practice self-care?

Go for a run outside, practice yoga, throw on my headphones, put on some hip-hop, get a massage...

What does "wellth" mean to you?

To be rich in life: experiences, health, love, self, community and career.

Any advice for someone who's looking to build a life that they love and follow their passion?

Dream big, believe wholeheartedly, and execute with consistency and passion. Create your own path, design your own days, live and work by your own rules.
