Mindy Kaling Just Made Our Day With This Acne Cream Selfie

Mindy Kaling has always held a special place in our hearts. But somehow, our hearts have just made even more room for her.

She just got really real on Instagram, the platform from which people tend to be really fake, by posting a photo of herself with acne cream on.

Now, this may not seem like a crazy feat, but in a mediascape full of heavy makeup and Photoshopping, this kind of act of defiance is pretty important. So, by choosing to go makeup-, Photoshop-, and filter-free, celebrities like Kaling are breaking down the unattainable beauty standards so ingrained in our culture.

This summer, Tyra Banks posted a picture of herself sans makeup, making quite the goofy face; in October, Demi Lovato chose to go nude and makeup-free for an impromptu photo shoot with Vanity Fair; and in November, Adele appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone without any makeup on.

But with her latest post, Kaling took the "real" selfie to a whole other level.

A few hours ago, she posted two side-by-side snapshots of her makeup-free face, dotted with zit cream, to her Instagram. "That zit cream in your 30’s life," she wrote. "At least I’m not going on the Tonight Show later today." (She is.)

This move isn't particularly surprising for Kaling, as she has always promoted loving one's self, body confidence, and keeping it real in the "picture perfect" world of Hollywood. Plus, she's hilarious.

So thanks, Mindy, for showing us that acne isn't something to be ashamed of. It's just a part of life. Better to embrace these supposed "flaws" than let them impede our lives.
