Six months ago, Anna Bozman and Travis Thompson's worst dream was realized when their 8-year-old son, Lake, passed away from a rare form of Leukemia.
The Atlanta couple had spent months by Lake's side in the hospital, and had pushed back their wedding date back after his diagnoses took a turn for the worst. So once it came time for Anne and Travis to get married last month, they felt as though something was missing.
"I could feel my emotions taking over after the ceremony when it was time to take pictures," Anna wrote on her Facebook page. "It was almost unbearable to take family pictures without him."
She writes that she felt Lake's presence through out the special day, and she wanted an image to reflect that. So she called upon the photographer to craft a photo that presented her entire family.
The resulting edited version features a faded snapshot of Lake smiling proud alongside his mom, dad, brother and sister. It's a touching reminder that nothing — not even the most profound of tragedies — can come between the bond of a family.
"I needed this picture more than [the photographer] or anyone could ever know," Anna wrote. "THIS is my family."
