Meet John Maultsby, of Las Vegas, who just crossed one big to-do off of his bucket list: run 50 marathons in 50 states. Oh, and if you missed the headline, he's 73 years old.
On his 60th birthday, Maultsby vowed to run a marathon in every state. It took him 13 years, and his last race was this past weekend at the Anthem Manchester City Marathon in New Hampshire. His time was impressive, too — clocking in at 4 hours, 9 minutes and 15 seconds, according to the Associated Press. He's run notable routes like the Las Vegas and Boston Marathons — and told the New Hampshire Union Leader he was chased by a moose during a marathon in Alaska.
"I know there are runners out there that have done it a whole lot quicker," Maultsby told WMUR9. "But I was 60 when I started and I don't know too many people that started in their sixties to do the 50 states." Maultsby had a cheering squad of about 20 relatives waiting for him at the finish line, and his wife was there for a congratulatory hug.
"It took a while, but I did it," Maultsby happily told the New Hampshire Union Leader. Watch him cross the finish line below!
