Take Your Smoothie Up A Notch With These 4 Ingredients

There are some amazing superfoods you can add to your already healthy juices. Here are some of my favorites for upping your immunity during cold and flu season.

1. Chlorella Powder

One of the most widely researched foods, chlorella (or chlorophyll) is a green superfood that supports our immune systems and contains loads of vitamins and minerals.

Juice addition: Once you've juiced your ingredients, stir in your powder and drink up.

Smoothie addition: Add 1 teaspoon to your daily smoothie with all the ingredients and blend.

2. Maca Powder

Maca is a superfood that some think is a miracle worker. Also known as Peruvian ginseng, it’s full of vitamins like B, C, and E. It’s also full of minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, and zinc.

It has been said to improve sexual function and women’s moods and energy. I’ve seen maca sold in pill form, but I love it as part of my smoothie. It’s tasteless, but I know it’s supporting me.

Smoothie addition: Add 1 teaspoon to your daily smoothie with all the ingredients and blend.

3. Spirulina

This superfood is filled with loads of necessary vitamins and minerals. Spirulina is a green powder super high in chlorophyll.

Juice addition: Once you've juiced your ingredients, stir in your powder and drink up.

Smoothie addition: Add 1 teaspoon to your daily smoothie with all the ingredients and blend.

4. Wheatgrass

Wheatgrass, similar to chlorophyll, is full of vitamins and minerals. It's a fabulous way to add all of your daily green vegetables to your diet.

Add 1 teaspoon (to start, but once you are comfortable and feel that you can handle more try up to 1 tablespoon) to any of your juices or smoothies.

Pomegranate Power Juice

Ingredients

  • 1 pomegranate
  • 1½ apples
  • One of the above immunity boosters

Preparation

1. Cut the pomegranate in half and remove the arils (seeds). Cut the apples to fit into the juicer.

2. Feed the ingredients through the juicer. Pour into a glass, stir in immunity booster of your choice, and serve immediately. Enjoy!
