Renowned makeup artist and uber-popular YouTuber Lisa Eldridge has just released her first book, Face Paint: The Story of Makeup. The book explores the history of makeup, covering everything from ancient ingredients to modern trends, and what it all meant in terms of society.
To accompany the text, Eldrige took to YouTube to do what she does best: apply makeup! In the video, she has some fun imagining where and when she'd want to be transported to in a time machine based on the makeup. And of course, she tells the story of each era in a full face of whatever the cosmetic trend of the time was.
Dramatic cat eye in ancient Egypt? Check. Aggressively rosy cheeks during Marie Antoinette's reign? You bet. Bare face for Victorian times? Yessir.
Check out the video below and let us know what your favorite (or least favorite) look is. And remember: Makeup is a form of self-expression, so use it (or don't!) however you want.
