It's 2015. We all (hopefully!) know that families come in all shapes and sizes. A group of people no longer needs to consist of a mother, a father, a daughter, a son, and a dog, all enclosed by a white picket fence, to be considered a family.
We know that divorce is tough, but sometimes, it can be celebrated (hence the trendy #divorceselfie). Separated parents can be successful parenting partners. Hell, fathers can even be friends with stepfathers.
Which is why a father's gesture to his daughter's stepfather at her wedding resonated with so many stepparents and parents across the world. A so-called "broken" home doesn't necessarily mean the family itself is broken.
Todd Bachman, biological father of the bride, was about to walk his daughter Brittany down the aisle, but he stopped the procession before they got anywhere, to everyone's confusion. He then walked up to his daughter's stepfather, Todd Cendrosky, and invited him to walk the bride down the aisle with him. Cendrosky clearly had not anticipated the gesture, so he began to cry as Bachman led him by the hand.
"Families are what we make them...make it about your kids and not your ego," wrote Blackburn in the post. "Congratulations Todd Bachman on showing your kids what true love really is...love for your children."
