Breathing sustains us. It’s the most important function we have to stay alive — and possibly the most misunderstood and ignored mechanism we possess as humans.
The average person reaches peak respiratory function and capacity in their mid-20s. Then he or she begins to lose lung capacity. So, unless you are doing something to maintain or improve your breathing capacity, it will decline. And with that, studies suggest, so will your general health and life expectancy.
Many of us have unconsciously adopted, accidentally formed, or had emotionally impressed upon us unhealthy breathing patterns. And certain fight-or-flight breathing patterns can actually trigger physiological and psychological stress and anxiety.
