A 3-Minute Meditation For People Who Don't Meditate (Video)

I practiced yoga for six years before discovering the profound power of meditation. In those years I spent hours each week doing more and more yoga to distract myself from the unpleasant darkness within. I was living in Los Angeles as an undergraduate student at UCLA, partying at night and then dragging myself to yoga most afternoons. But I couldn’t imagine sitting still for even a few minutes. I was terrified of what I might discover if I slowed down and actually looked deep within.

Then I met a man in Manhattan who changed my life. He took me to an ashram in India, and it was there that I was able to dive into silence for the first time. This man later become my husband, but that’s an entirely different story ...

I wish I had discovered meditation earlier. I know it would have helped alleviate the suffering and madness of my early 20s. I know it would have helped soothe the self-loathing of my teenage years.

Please accept this three minute guided meditation as an invitation to start experimenting with silence today. After all, I know in my heart that we are all Buddhas, but many of us just don’t know it yet.
