3 All-Natural Ways To Exfoliate In Less Than 10 Minutes

Exfoliating your skin is crucial for a healthy, vibrant complexion. Since the top layer of the skin (the epidermis) is renewed every two weeks, millions of skin cells are left clinging to your body. Some fall off, but the majority pile on top of each other with nowhere to go ... leading to clogged pores and oily, rough skin.

Your pores are responsible for cleaning your body and skin of toxins, so when skin cells accumulate and block those pores, the oil produced by your sebaceous gland has nowhere to go. This leads to acne, blackheads and whiteheads.

The only way to remove the dead skin quickly and easily is to exfoliate! Removing a layer of the skin’s surface allows the skin to breathe while revealing a newer, brighter layer. Lucky for you, it's easy to naturally exfoliate your skin in 10 minutes or less. Here are three methods you can try right now.

1. DIY sugar scrub

A homemade sugar scrub is an oldie but a goodie when it comes to exfoliating naturally. The organic sugar’s rough texture allows for a vigorous exfoliation, breaking the skin’s surface and revealing a layer of smooth, bright skin.

Different sugar scrubs can be created depending on the preference of scent and skin condition. The example being used is a Piña Colada Sugar Scrub. However, a scrub can be made simply with natural oil and organic brown sugar.

For a Piña Colada Sugar Scrub: Mix 1/2 cup organic brown sugar, 1/2 cup raw coconut oil and 1/3 cup organic pineapple juice. Massage gently onto clean skin. Rinse with cool water.

2. Organic face mask

Creating your own mask gives you control over which ingredients to choose. A face mask can be used on your entire face or just as a spot treatment when something flares up.

For a banana honey face mask: Wash your face with organic soap to remove any dirt and makeup. Blend an organic banana with two teaspoons of raw, organic honey. Squeeze five drops of lemon juice into the mixture and mix well. Apply to your face for 20 minutes, then rinse off with cool water.

3. Natural extracts

Natural extracts can be used to exfoliate the face and body. Two I like are lavender and calendula extracts. Typically infused into organic soaps, extracts are rich in vitamins and provide a solid texture allowing for purification of the epidermis and polished skin.

Use hot steam to open up your pores. (Try this method.) Wet your face with lukewarm water and using organic soap with natural extracts, massage the product onto your skin. Let the lather sit on your face or body for 60 seconds, then rinse it off with cool water and gently towel dry.
