Watch Models Get Photoshopped For High-End Fashion Campaigns

You're probably already aware that Photoshop can create unrealistic images and send complicated signals about beauty and self-esteem. But have you ever seen the retouching work that goes into just one photo in a high-end fashion campaign?

That's what photographer Elizabeth Moss, founder and head retoucher of RARE Digital Art, wanted to show the world. Her company has worked with high-profile magazines, including Vogue and Vanity Fair.

She typically spends around six hours on each photo, so you can imagine how different the original is from the end result.

In the time-lapse videos below — the first shows six hours of work, the second shows four, and the last shows 90 minutes — Moss gives us a behind-the-scenes look at just how complex the retouching process is.

While it certainly takes plenty of skill and effort to retouch these models, the result winds up portraying someone different than the person who posed for photos. At MBG, we're all about embracing who you really are, no matter what body-image stereotypes are out there.
