Exfoliate & Nourish Your Skin With This DIY Body Buff

Editor's note: With temperatures warming up, hemlines and sleeves are bound to get shorter. To prep the skin that's been hibernating under layers of clothes and jackets all winter, exfoliating is a must.

Not only will it gently slough away dead skin cells to reveal a fresh, glowing layer of epidermis, this recipe will also moisturize with three essential oils. Best of all? You can make it yourself whenever you feel the need for a sensory trip to a tropical island.

Tropical Body Buff

To exfoliate and nourish the skin. Be sure not to use on damaged skin or on acne.


  • 1/2 cup coconut oil
  • 1 1/4 cups brown or raw sugar
  • 6 drops orange essential oil
  • 4 drops lemongrass essential oil
  • 3 drops ylang-ylang essential

Makes & Keeps: Makes up to 2 1/2 cups. Keeps 6 months.Preparation

Warm the coconut oil in a water bath until it is just melted. Blend with the sugar well. Add the essential oils, making sure to mix well.

To use, massage a little into damp skin and wash off with warm water.
