Danny Meyer, the culinary mastermind behind Union Square Hospitality, could keep everything at Shake Shack exactly the same, and it would still thrive. The Shack has a cult following. It was one of the first chains to successfully elevate fast food — with its "100% all-natural Angus beef," its famous crinkle-cut Yukon potato fries, and, of course, its velvety shakes.
And yet, he's still choosing to step up his game.
Meyer has major plans to expand the already-extensive empire, but he is making sure not to compromise the food's quality. In fact, he's actually trying to improve it.
As of today, all Shack burger and hot dog buns will be GMO-free.
Existing Shackfans need not fret about the flavor: The chain will continue to source their potato rolls from Martin's Famous Pastry Shoppe, which worked with Meyer to source non-GMO ingredients.
We applaud Meyer for always striving to do better — even when he doesn't necessarily need to.
