Why Money Isn't Your Source Of Wealth (And What Is)

It's easy to get caught believing that things outside of ourselves will complete us. We do it with relationships: "When he/she commits to me, then I'll feel whole and worthy of love." We do it with our careers: "When I get promoted, then I'll feel accomplished." And we do it with money: "When I make more money, then I'll feel fulfilled with my wealth."

The irony of this viewpoint is that life actually works in the exact opposite way. When you hold tightly onto a belief-system inside, you draw experiences on the outside to match that feeling within. In other words, if you believe that you'll feel whole, fulfilled and happy if and only if X happens to you, then you will match your experiences to reinforce this limiting belief.

In this article, I'm going to show you how, by getting in touch with your source of wealth within, you'll automatically (and gracefully!) attract more wealth into your life.

The logical place for us to start the conversation is with a very simple question: "If money is not equivalent to wealth, then what is?" Here's the very simple answer: Source is your true wealth. And what do I mean by this somewhat vague concept "Source"? Well, I'm talking about love, God, your higher self, your soul, your inner truth, a spiritual practice — whatever you want to call it. Source can be different for everyone.

If this seems "out there" to you, hang on while I explain what I'm talking about. The foundation of the idea of "Source" is that we all have access to a feeling of infinite abundance, happiness, love and freedom within us. Some call this "soul," some call it God and some call it "inner peace." Some find this feeling through yoga, others with mediation; some by walking in nature, and others by using affirmations or other rituals.

What you call this feeling is not so important, nor is understanding the mechanics of how you make contact with it. What is important is understanding that this feeling will allow you to create the life you want. Your Source — be it love, happiness, peace and so on — is your one, true key to unlocking further abundance in your life. And yes, I'm talking about real cash ...

Now, I'm sure you're wondering the next big question: How does feeling connected to Source could result in money? Here's the big answer: our Source allows us to shed our limiting beliefs, and manifest the lives we want and deserve.

Source is the feeling of infinite wealth inside you, regardless of whether or not you have a partner, a big house or a prestigious job. Because we create our realities from the inside out, recognizing that we can connect to an inner feeling of wealth on a consistent basis allows us to draw more concrete wealth into our lives. This is simply (and often unbelievably) how it works.

Spirituality is trippy when we first pursue it because it teaches us something that's contrary to what we've always believed: It tells us that we can create our own reality.

Unfortunately, because our minds are so conditioned to believe that wealth is "out there," we often become dependent on money to feel wealthy. This, of course, tends to make us chase money even more because we're convinced it's the only way we'll experience freedom, security and a sense of abundance. And this then creates the cycle of feeling like there's a shortage or lack in our lives.

When you think of money as your only source of wealth, you'll automatically feel disempowered. Until you return to your true source of wealth within, you'll be in a constant state of feeling emptiness.

While these concepts may seem esoteric, putting them into action is more practical than it sounds. As you steadily and gradually work toward feeling more abundant within, more signs of increased physical wealth will make their way to you. Here's a list of 10 quick habits you can easily implement in your life to shift your internal connection to what it feels like to be wealthy:

  1. Take a walk in a beautiful landscape and recognize the abundance in nature.
  2. Clean your home (and take good care of your possessions). Celebrate your space!
  3. Order an awesome cup of coffee or tea and really savor it.
  4. Meditate on the feeling of wealth for five to ten minutes a day.
  5. Start a gratitude journal.
  6. Create a wealth altar, and place objects that make you feel happy on it (flowers, crystals, figurines, etcetera).
  7. Pay attention to how much you have, figuratively and literally.
  8. Wear an outfit that makes you feel good!
  9. Say "thank you" a lot.
  10. Count your blessings before you go to sleep.

The bottom line? Anything you do that makes you feel more connected to your inner abundance will strengthen your ability to manifest more opportunities for wealth into your life.
