DIY: Ultra-Moisturizing Chia-Coconut Face Mask

Give that exquisite epidermis of yours a makeover using your favorite foods au naturel. Try this DIY skin treatment that will make your skin glow on the outside and comfort your entire body on the inside. It'll moisturize and nourish your skin to give you a gorgeous winter glow, and is literally good enough to eat! Feel free to lick this off your face.

Ultra-Moisturizing Chia-Coconut Face Mask

Oatmeal is one of the most comforting foods around — its blood sugar-balancing soluble fiber makes it a good mood food — so it's no wonder it also works to calm the skin. Oats cleanse the skin of oils, unclog pores and ease irritation and redness. Almonds add vitamin E to the mix, and coconut oil moisturizes and softens the skin. The chia seeds help exfoliate while infusing the skin with omega 3 goodness. Plus, cinnamon is antiviral and anti-fungal, so it'll help to cleanse the skin of impurities.


  • 1/2 cup of oats
  • 2 tablespoons of almond butter
  • 3/4 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoons of chia seeds
  • 1 tablespoons of coconut oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon of vanilla powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon powder
  • 3 Medjool dates


Soak the dates in hot water for a few minutes until soft. Peel skin and remove pits. Blend almond butter, water, dates, coconut oil, cinnamon and vanilla in a blender until smooth.

Add oats and chia seeds to a bowl and pour the mixture over the top. Mix together, then let sit for at least 15 minutes. You can use right away or, even better, cover and place in the refrigerator and allow to soak and firm up even more for a few hours or overnight.

When you're ready, apply half the mixture to your face. Meanwhile, add the rest to a bowl and eat it! (You can top with banana slices, cacao nibs, nuts, seeds or fresh fruit for an added boost of flavor and energy.) After 10-15 minutes, rinse the mask off with lukewarm water and follow with a cold splash of water to lock in moisture.
