Ayurveda, or "the science of life," is a centuries-old holistic approach to health and wellness. At its core, Ayurveda says health is a balance of environment, mind, body and spirit via three governing doshas, or elements: Vata (Wind), Kapha (Earth) and Pitta (Fire). While the proportion of these elements is naturally different from person to person, health thrives when they're balanced. When there's an imbalance, however, our bodies are thrown out of whack ... including the state of our skin.
To help incorporate Ayurvedic principles into your beauty routine, you first need to figure out what your dosha-based skin type is: Vata skin is often dry, Pitta is sensitive, Kapha is oily/combination. Once you know this, you'll be able to eat to best support your dosha and in turn, the health of your skin.
