Every year, Google releases a list of the topics we've collectively searched for the most over the past 12 months. Formerly known as Zeitgeist, Year In Search is a worldwide look at the top trending searches for 2014. The review reflects what the world was searching for this year — which include a wide variety of queries within many different categories: health, pop culture, sports, entertainment, politics, and more.

But here, of course, we're most concerned with health and fitness. So we've provided you with only the lists — which measure the terms that earned the highest amount of traffic over a sustained period in 2014 — for top diets and trending workouts and exercises.

Some other interesting finds from the review? While last year was all about kale and quinoa, we had new favorites this year: chia seeds and goji berries. We're also eating out less and cooking more (searches for "recipes" trumped "restaurants"), and we're apparently a lot hungrier than we are thirsty — "i am hungry" was searched seven times more than "i am thirsty." Maybe that's why we're turning to fat-busting, muscle-searing "Insanity" workouts.
