What comes to mind when you think of meditation? Nothing? Good. (That was a meditator's joke!)
When speaking about meditation, most people are not sure why they should meditate or which method is going to be the most effective for them. With so many rules and regulations put forth in the last 20 years or so, many people who come to me for guidance are just confused. It's kind of how we feel about the internet when looking for information — we're not exactly sure when something is correct and when it isn't.
But let's get something straight; just like anything in life and even more so with meditation, it takes preparation and daily practice to be able to master — it becomes a part of our lifestyle. This means we practice it every day and it becomes part of our deeper consciousness.
To actually be able to meditate and go beyond our busy mind, we must find the correct method and technique best suited for our unique self. Not all meditations will be suitable for our individual mindset.
Here are some easy tips to help you develop a successful meditation practice:
- Know why you want to meditate
- Know which meditation method is the best one for you
- Practice daily
- Set aside a dedicated area for your practice
- Start to make healthy living a part of your life in general
- Start to make a spiritual lifestyle a way of living
- Be committed to your practice and make it a very important part of your life
With these guidelines and your commitment, you will be able to start meditating if you are a beginner, and continue meditating if you are already doing so. And then maybe one day you will master the art of meditation and transcend beyond the confines of the mind, to a space of pure love. What an amazing goal to work for!
