Keira Knightley Poses Topless To Protest Photoshopping

Recently, female celebrities have really been taking a stand against the ridiculous body image standards Hollywood has set for them. Julia Roberts refused to get plastic surgery, Jennifer Aniston is starring in a film without makeup, and, most recently, Keira Knightley posed topless for Interview magazine under the condition that her breasts not be retouched. You can see the NSFW photos here.

Knightley told The Times of London, "I've had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it's paparazzi photographers or for film posters. That [shoot] was one of the ones where I said: 'OK, I'm fine doing the topless shot so long as you don't make them any bigger or retouch.' Because it does feel important to say it really doesn't matter what shape you are."

In 2004, her body was digitally altered for promotional posters for King Arthur: Her breasts were clearly made to look larger than they are in reality.

What are we supposed to think if even Keira Knightley's body isn't good enough? Is no one's body up to Hollywood's standards?

In this photo shoot, Knightley was ready to put her foot down: "I think women's bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame. You need tremendous skill to be able get a woman's shape and make it look like it does in life, which is always beautiful. But our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape."

We need more prominent voices like Knightley's to express their frustration with the unrealistic beauty standards of movie studios and advertising companies. These ideals have been entrenched in show business since it's existed, but if more celebrities follow in Knightley's footsteps, the ears of major influencers in the industry are bound to perk up.
